Who are you and what's your role in fashion?
I am an Italian fashion designer, recognised as the first Black Italian designer and the first and only BIPOC member of the Italian Fashion Chamber. The basis of my work is multiculturalism applied to ethical fashion, resulting in a cultural fusion that reflects my own identity. My work often merges classical Italian tailoring with stylistic features of varying cultures.
What excites you about being part of the Selection Panel for the accelerator?
What resonates with me about the accelerator is its embodiment of the material aspects of fashion design amidst a landscape of hope and aspiration. It’s not only about discovering what the new generation has to offer but also having an active part in spotting the brands that have greater potential to be successful on platforms such as Zalando. I am excited to bring to the table my knowledge regarding the business side of operations and what it takes to keep a brand afloat and thriving during both rewarding and challenging periods.
What do you hope to see in the applications?
I envision collections infused with passion, innovative ideas, and a unique point of view. I want to see cohesion between concepts and products, as well as collections that are infused with the cultural heritage of each participant.
Why do you think this accelerator is valuable?
This programme is a concrete answer to everyone’s question: “What do young designers want?”. It offers a platform for designers navigating the initial phases of launching their brands or seeking expansion to broader audiences. By combining the designers' creativity with adaptable strategies for growth and sustainability, it will propel them into action. Additionally, for those encountering constraints in meeting market demands, the accelerator programme facilitates accessibility to existing clientele while enhancing visibility for newfound audiences.
